NANCY HUTCHINSON  (incumbent), Unaffiliated
Term begins 2024

Nancy has served admirably on the Old Lyme Zoning Board of Appeals for the past nine years.  She has been unanimously voted Chairwoman of the ZBA annually since 2018.   As Chair, she led the development of the ZBA’s “Residential Variance Application Guide” and the updating of ZBA’s procedures to ensure fair and transparent decision-making in full compliance with evolving Connecticut statutes and case law.  She also hosted a UConn Land Use Training Course in Old Lyme for all land-use board and commission members.  Nancy has

completed extensive trainings in CT Land Use sponsored by the Connecticut Bar Association, UConn, CT-DEEP, and FEMA.   Nancy is an extremely qualified candidate for ZBA, who loves Old Lyme and would like the opportunity to continue supporting our beautiful community.

 

Other career highlights:

Retired research scientist and pharmaceutical executive, with 7 years’ experience as a senior regulatory professional.  

 

Education:

  • PhD in Microbiology; B.A. in Zoology  

  • Extensive training in CT Land Use law and procedures

 

Personal:

  • Old Lyme resident for over 27 years

  • Married to Bob, and they have two sons who attended Region 18 schools

 

Civic contributions:

  • Member of ZBA for nine years

  • Chair of ZBA since 2018

  • Partnered with OL Zoning Commission to update Aquifer Protection regulations

  • Served on Lyme-Old Lyme High School Building Committee

  • Voter registration volunteer

DAN MONTANO
Term begins 2023

Dan was a member of the Old Lyme ZBA for four years and was a well-informed member of the board.  He is committed to being fair and reasonable in the zoning appeal process, while ensuring the zoning regulations are followed. Dan is vice president of the Miami Beach Association, which gives him a forward view and understanding of the importance ZBA decisions have on property owners and the town. He is very familiar with the ZBA process, has valuable experience to contribute to the board, and sees the need to compromise when necessary. All of this makes him extremely qualified for this ZBA position.

 

Other career highlights:

  • 40-year successful career as a pharmaceutical representative.

  • actively volunteers for election day polls

B.S. in Natural Sciences / Pre-Med.

 

Personal:

Has lived in Old Lyme for over seven years; he is the father of two adult children and has two granddaughters.

 

Civic contributions:

  • served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for four years

  • current Vice President of the Miami Beach Association

ROD CLINGMAN (incumbent)

Rod has been a Zoning Board of Appeals alternate for the past two years.  He is passionate about preserving the character and beauty of Old Lyme by keeping land use and development reasonable and balanced.  Rod believes in sensible economic development and conservation.

 

Other career highlights:

  • Successful marine insurance profession for over 25 years with loyal client following.

  • Member of the CT Marine Trades Association

 

Education:

B.S., Business Management,  Sacred Heart University (1990).

​

 

Personal:

  • Resident of Old Lyme for over 21 years where he has enjoyed working on major renovations of two homes.

  • Lifelong boater and sailor who cares deeply about preserving the environment of the CT River and Long Island Sound.

 

Civic contributions:

  • Has served as an alternate for the ZBA for over two years.

  • Community Garden volunteer at St. Ann Church, 2012–13

BRIAN COLE   [Unaffiliated]

Brian has over 40 years of business experience in southeastern Connecticut. He is the owner of Quality Printers in New London, among other enterprises.

 

Other career highlights:

  • 11 store franchisee, Domino’s Pizza, 1983–1994

  • Insurance sales

  • Technology conference sales

  • Electronic billboard owner

  • Radio host/DJ/MC/Auctioneer

 

Education:

  • Campbell College, North Carolina

  • Hofstra University, New York

Personal:

Married to Ellen since 1984. They have three children, all graduates of Region 18 schools.

 

Civic Contributions:

  • Past President, Southeast Soccer Club

PETER LUCCHESE

Peter has been in the commercial and residential real estate business for over 50 years. As a real estate broker in neighboring Connecticut shoreline towns, he has successfully represented owners and tenants seeking zoning board approvals, which gives him a very qualified and experienced view of appropriate zoning decisions. His extensive and relevant experience uniquely qualifies him for this position on the ZBA as an alternate.  

     Peter previously served as chairman of the Tuckahoe, New York Planning Board; served as a member of the Mount Pleasant, New York Conservation Advisory Council; and is a current member of the Lymes’ Senior Center Board of Directors.

Career highlights:

Real Estate Broker in sales, leasing, consulting, and property management in Manhattan, Westchester County, New York, and Connecticut shoreline.

 

Personal:

Lives in Old Lyme with significant other; he has three daughters and is a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.

 

Civic contributions:

  • Board of Directors,  Lymes’ Senior Center

  • Past chairman of Planning Board and member of Conservation Advisory Council in New York.
